Web directories – How to find and submit


Web directory is a set of useful resources maintained by human beings. Every directory has its own database and fetch categorical data against specific search terms. Directory submission is the process of submitting website. The process is not merely filling the form at directory submission page but also involves taking some tricky decisions and do it wisely.

Searching New Directories – Although there is a huge list of directories available over the Internet, however I would recommend following points that must be considered before making a final selection:

1. It should be real directory not the fake one. Must be maintained by human being not any automated software. Real directory always provide results from itw own database. If you submit a site to directory and is it instantly approved, it may not be a good practice. Site must be reviewed by the directory editor and then added. Thats way spamming is controlled and you may be able to obtain good quality one way link.

2. Must have minimum home page rank as 2

3. Directory home page as well as actual category page should be indexed by Google

4. Always perform manual directory submissions. I am not in favor of using any automated software

How to submit a website to directory
Submitting a website to directory is quite a simple process. There are four major elements that needs attention:

1. Title
2. Description
3. Keywords
4. URL

The only object of directory submission is to get one way link. It is very rare that free web directories produce significant traffic. So we are looking directory submission for getting back links. As title is hyper linked with the URL, you must write it carefully and using your primary keywords. Ideally you use use two to three keywords and write it in proper sentense form. Same is the case with description. there is no characters limit. Use it freely but wisely. In case of bulk targeted keywords, make their different sets and submit them one by one say 1st set to first 50 directories of your list, 2nd set in next 50 directories and so on.
